Vaping eucalyptus may be just what the doctor ordered for cold & flu season

Now that cold and flu season is fast approaching, consider vaping a bit of eucalyptus oil from time to time to boost the immunity system, kill germs and bacteria, and manage those aches and pains.   Many ancient cultures from around the world like the Mayans and the Egyptians of the Great Pyramids firmly believed in this plant’s almost mystical healing properties.  And several modern-day scientific studies support these claims., too.

For example, a 2016 study led by Dr. M. H. Salari found that the when the oil extracted from eucalyptus leaves is vaporized, the resulting vapor kills streptococcus pneumoniae and nearly thirty additional forms of illness-inducing pathogenic bacteria.  The complete published findings are available in the associated research paper entitled Antibacterial effects of Eucalyptus globulus leaf extract on pathogenic bacteria isolated from specimens of patients with respiratory tract disorders.

Many physicians today recommend eucalyptus-enhance therapies for infections of the upper respiratory tract including sinusitis, emphysema, and bronchitis.  Eucalyptus-based ointments have also been proven to break up nasty phlegm buildup in the nose and throat – much like the Vick’s Vapor Rub treatment used by millions of mothers of sickly children over the decades.  In fact, if you read the label, one of the primary ingredients of Vick’s Vapor Rub is indeed eucalyptus.

Research shows eucalyptus boosts immunity system

In 2008, a group of scientists from the Institute of Neurobiology and Molecular Medicine determined that the extracted oil of the eucalyptus plant acts as a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.  Furthermore, it works against both “in vitro and in vivo” bacteria (bacteria living either inside or outside the human body).

Following this train of thought, one can safely assume that vaporized eucalyptus oil helps prevent future diagnoses of the common cold and flu by killing airborne bacteria before rather than after the bacteria potentially enters the bloodstream.  The study entitled Stimulatory effect of Eucalyptus essential oil on innate cell-mediated immune response is still considered valid some ten years later and remains readily available for review via the U.S. Library of Medicine.

Vaping eucalyptus for cold- and flu-related aches, pains, and muscle spasms

In June 2018, a paper was published by Dr. RA DeFilipps entitled The medicinal plants of MyanmarThe researchers not only confirm that vaporized eucalyptus helps relieve illness-related aches, pains, and muscle spasms, but the paper also discusses other medical benefits discovered by the ancient peoples of Myanmar.  Apparently, ancient Myanmarians would prescribe eucalyptus oil as a remedy for constipation, asthma, joint pain, whooping cough, fever, and even to expedite the healing of surgical wounds.
