Call to Action: SFATA urges all vapers to fight the FDA’s Flavor Ban on vapes!

The vaping advocacy group Smoke Free Alternatives Trade Association (SFATA) has issued a Call to Action to all vapers.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently published an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) regarding the possible regulation of flavored tobacco products.  Since vaping supplies are now reclassified as tobacco products per the FDA deeming regulations, the ANPRM rules might also negatively affect the production and sales of all flavored e-liquids in the United States.

According to the official FDA announcement released on March 20, 2018, by Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, the agency is not yet implementing any new policies, but rather the agency is opening the topic up for “public input” before making any final decisions.

This is where SFATA needs your help!

The FDA is also soliciting feed back about a few other vaping-related topics, such as:

  • Has vaping and flavored e-liquids helped you to quit smoking combustible tobacco products?
  • Has vaping and flavored e-liquids helped you to quit using other kinds of tobacco products, such as snuff and snus?
  • Are you a dual user? And if so, why, where, when, and how often do you vape and/or smoke?

To put this another way, the FDA is trying to decide whether to ban only flavored tobaccos or should e-liquids also be included?

SFATA sent out thousands of emails with an urgent Call to Action which states the following:

“The FDA is preparing to issue new rules surrounding flavored tobacco (and therefore vapor) products, but they are listening to our feedback.  It is imperative that not only you as business owners, but also your customers, speak up and SPEAK LOUDLY about successfully switching from cigarettes to vaping, thanks to flavored e-liquids.  In addition to influencing the FDA, these comments could help in future lawsuits against the rule, should that become necessary.”

SFATA is urging all vapers to contact the FDA to express their opinions against a possible FDA Flavor Ban!  The advocacy group even provides a pre-written Sample Letter Template to make the process as pain-free as possible

THE FDA IS LISTENING.  IT’S TIME FOR YOU AND YOUR CUSTOMERS TO GET LOUD!  With your help, we can educate the FDA regarding the importance of e-liquid flavors and the critical role they play in transitioning smokers away from cigarettes for good.”

Vapes.com also strongly recommends that all vapers contact their state congressional representatives and senators, urging them to take action and use their political clout to prevent a possible Flavor Ban by the FDA!  And while you’re at it, why not send Donald Trump a kindly worded message, too.
